What is Ranklit?
More than half of online questions are now answered directly by AI assistants and answer engines instead of a list of blue links. Ranklit is a SaaS platform that measures and optimizes how visible your website is across both worlds:
- GEOGenerative Engine Optimization — your presence inside answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity.
- AEOAnswer Engine Optimization — featured snippets, AI Overviews and “People Also Ask”.
- SEOClassic technical search optimization — audits, Core Web Vitals, schema, keywords.
Instead of guessing, Ranklit gives you a measurable GEO Score, an AI Citation Tracker, a full technical SEO audit, and an AI-powered Advisor that turns findings into prioritized, copy-paste actions.
Why Ranklit?
Traditional SEO tools (Semrush, Ahrefs, Sistrix) only measure Google rankings. They are completely blind to whether ChatGPT recommends you, whether Perplexity cites your page, or whether Gemini even knows your brand exists. When buyers ask an AI assistant for recommendations and your competitors are named while you are not, you lose customers — invisibly.
Ranklit closes that gap:
- See the unseen. Know exactly how often and how positively the major AI models mention and cite you.
- One platform, three disciplines. GEO, AEO and SEO together instead of stitching tools.
- Actionable, not just analytical. The Advisor prioritizes fixes by impact with concrete instructions.
- Built for the EU. GDPR-compliant, hosted in Germany, data encrypted.
- Free under Fair Use. Full feature set with a monthly credit allowance — no subscription.
How it works
Ranklit runs a continuous measure → analyze → advise loop for every domain you add:
1 · Query
Ranklit sends real prompts (your own or generated ones) to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, and crawls your site for the technical audit.
2 · Analyze
It checks whether you were mentioned, the sentiment, your position in the answer, and which sources were cited — plus on-page, schema and Core Web Vitals signals.
3 · Score
Results become a GEO Score (≈50% mention rate, 30% sentiment, 20% position), an AEO/SEO score and an AI Readability Score, tracked over time.
4 · Advise
The Advisor turns gaps into a prioritized to-do list, and the Content Suite helps you produce the assets to close them.
Methodology in detail
This section explains how Ranklit actually produces its numbers — what it sends, what it reads, and how raw signals become a score you can act on. The goal is full transparency: you should always understand where a value comes from before you act on it.
1 · Prompt generation & the query layer (GEO)
For every domain you add, Ranklit builds a brand profile (your name, category, products, competitors and the regions you serve) by crawling your homepage and key pages. From that profile it derives a prompt set — the realistic questions a buyer would ask an AI assistant, such as “What are the best tools for X?” or “Which provider should I choose for Y in Germany?”. You can edit this set, remove prompts, or add the exact wording your customers use.
Each prompt is then sent as a real API request to the four models — ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google) and Perplexity. Ranklit does not screen-scrape chat UIs; it uses the official model APIs, which is why a full live GEO scan requires your own API keys. Because model answers are non-deterministic, each prompt is sampled and tracked over time so that a single lucky or unlucky answer does not distort the trend.
2 · Response analysis
For every answer that comes back, Ranklit extracts three things:
- Mention. Were you named at all? Entity matching handles brand variants, domains and product names so a mention counts even if it isn’t worded exactly like your title.
- Sentiment. Is the mention positive, neutral or negative? A recommendation is worth far more than a passing or critical reference.
- Position & citation. Where in the answer do you appear — first pick, a list, or an aside? And did the model cite your URL as a source (especially relevant for Perplexity and AI Overviews)?
The same pass also records who else was mentioned — your competitors — so you get a Share-of-Voice view of who AI recommends in your category.
3 · Technical crawl (SEO & AEO)
In parallel, Ranklit crawls your publicly accessible pages to gather on-page and technical signals: Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS), Schema.org structured data, heading and content structure, internal links, broken links, mobile-friendliness, security headers and a GDPR/cookie check. For AEO it evaluates how “answer-ready” your content is — concise definitions, FAQ blocks, lists and tables that AI and answer engines can lift directly.
It also checks AI crawlability: whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended are allowed in your robots.txt, and whether a valid llms.txt exists. If something blocks the AI crawlers, your content can’t be learned in the first place — so this is checked before anything else.
4 · Scoring & trends
The signals are combined into the scores described in the next section and stored as a time series. Ranklit always treats them as trends, not absolutes: the value to watch is the direction over weeks, because that is what reflects real changes in how AI and search perceive you.
5 · The Advisor (advise)
Finally, the Ranklit Advisor turns every gap into a prioritized to-do. Each recommendation gets an impact score (how much it can move your visibility) weighed against effort, and is categorized (GEO, SEO, Technical, Schema, Content). Where possible it ships a copy-paste fix — a schema block, an llms.txt file, an FAQ section — so the loop closes from measurement straight to action.
The scores explained
Ranklit reports several scores. Here is exactly what each one means and how it is weighted.
GEO Score (0–100)
Your overall visibility inside AI answers, aggregated across all four models. It is composed of:
| Signal | Weight | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| Mention rate | ≈50% | How often you appear across prompts and models |
| Sentiment | ≈30% | How positively you are described |
| Position | ≈20% | How prominently you are placed in the answer |
You also get a per-model breakdown (e.g. strong in ChatGPT, weak in Gemini) so you know where to focus, plus the competitor Share-of-Voice for the same prompts.
AEO Score
How well your content is positioned to win direct answers — featured snippets, AI Overviews and “People Also Ask”. It rewards clear definitions, structured FAQ content, lists/tables and valid FAQPage / HowTo schema.
SEO Score
The classic technical foundation: Core Web Vitals, schema validity, crawlability, mobile-friendliness, broken links and security. A weak SEO base caps your GEO and AEO potential, so it stays part of the picture.
AI Readability Score (ARS)
A page-level measure of how easily an AI system can parse, understand and reuse your content. The machine-readability audit runs ~25 checks (semantic HTML, structured data, content clarity, answerable chunks, metadata) and returns a score per page plus concrete fixes. This is the most direct lever you control for GEO.
How to read the numbers. Treat every score as a trend. A GEO Score moving from 48 → 61 over a month is the real signal; a ±3 wobble between two scans is normal sampling noise, not a regression.

What Ranklit cannot do
We are deliberately honest about the limits so you know what to expect:
It measures and advises — it does not control the AI models. Ranklit cannot directly edit what ChatGPT or Gemini “know,” and it cannot guarantee that you will be ranked, mentioned or cited. It shows you where you stand and how to improve the odds.
AI answers are probabilistic. The same prompt can yield different responses. Scores are sampled indicators meant to be tracked as trends over time, not absolute, repeatable numbers.
Live AI scans and some integrations need credentials. Full GEO scans use model APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Perplexity); backlinks use DataForSEO; GSC/GA4 need a connected account. Where a key is missing, the related data is shown as clearly labeled illustrative samples rather than live results.
It is not a publisher or CMS. The Content Suite produces drafts, schema and step-by-step instructions; you review and implement the changes on your own site.
It is not a paid-ads manager, CRM, or hosting/CDN. Ranklit focuses on visibility measurement and optimization, not campaign execution or infrastructure.
Scope of crawling. Audits cover publicly accessible pages; content behind logins or paywalls is not crawled.
